Help needed with insurance for two cars

Hey

My Dad owns a Mazda 6 estate and he also recently bought a Mazda MX5. We have looked at Multi car policies with Admiral, and so far for the two cars on one policy for just him as a driver it came up at £450 ish. I am wondering, if we insured each car on separate policies, where do we stand with his 9/10 years No claims bonus, can they only be used on one policy? And if so, is he better using them on the newer and more expensive car?

Thank you all in advance

£450ish sounds alright. If you have built up NCD on one car, it can only be used on one car. You will start building up NCD on the second car with Admiral's multi-car policy. Otherwise just try some quotes for insuring the second car seperately and see what works out best.

I would protect the NCB you have and attach it to the car you think is most likely to have an accident/gets most use. You are usually allowed 2 claims in 5 years with protected NCB.

So, on the admiral multi car, I can also only choose one car to use the NCB on, is that accurate?

Yes, but they may also give you some discount on the other car but it won't be no-claims discount.
Actually I'll slightly modify the advice above: You could use the NCB on whichever car is the most expensive to insure then you will save the most by using your NCB on that car.

I would phone his existing insurers. When we purchased an additional vehicle for my OH his insurers mirrored his maximum bonus on the second vehicle as the drivers on all 3 of our vehicles were the same - him and I.

Of course if there was another driver on the 3rd vehicle, then I would have expected them to rate it on the 3rd driver particularly if a young driver.
