Hi I go to the USA 20 to 28 Jan my passport U.K. Expires mid Feb
The gov website suggests I'm ok as I'm covered for period of travel however some other sources , 2 times travel agents and another website that calculates your passport validity suggest I'm not . I perhaps should trust gov but any other opinions most appreciated

If you've got British passport it only needs to be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. Don't forget your Esta!
Travel agents advise 6 months, but it's generic advice and covers all destinations. Some need a full 6 months, others need less. Some just require your passport to valid until you get home.0 -
Your passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.
(And to answer another frequently asked, related question - ESTA only needs to be valid on date of entry)Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Provided that you are a British citizen and entering the USA under the Visa waiver program, your passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay.
Normally, you would be admitted for 90 days but if your passport expires before the end of this 90 day period, you will only be allowed to stay until the date of expiry.

On the other hand, if you haven't already got an ESTA (which is connected to that passport number and will expire when your passport does) why not renew your passport now?
You've got plenty of time, you'll get the extra 6 months added onto the new passport (new one will expire Feb 2027) and then when you do get the ESTA it will last the full two years

I am quite cautious with this sort of thing and would be annoyed if it was delayed and messed things up where as if I can just travel on this one til Jan then renew I'll be happy0

Mine and also everyone I know is only taking a week just now.
Mine wasn't due until October but I renewed it in February so i could get a new Esta for my trip to US in April. Then it covers me for 2 yearstravelover0
