The information that should not be shared should be in a box with a large warning that says to not share the information with anyone else, especially hotel staff.

Lately, I find going direct is the same price, even after Genius discount.

There is no real discount that you only get through Booking.com.

The hotel has to pay commission to Booking.com .
I would much rather the hotel gets the money.

Another odd thing is, the reception often can't find my Booking.com reservation. I find that having the confirmation in printed in black and white is the only way they can find it. I have a feeling they don't bother putting it on their system, because Booking.com allows you to cancel, so why bother, until somebody actually turns up.

So as not to let a pre-booked room to someone else?

Booking.com is a bunch of crooks. Last year I wanted to post a review of a hotel saying that it was a small and basic room, but good enough for overnight, then there was a message on a screen, that the review will be posted after Booking.com will review it. Shortly it was posted, but it said "small and very pleasant room" or something like that. In any case when I confronted them regarding the unnecessary and misleading edit (there was nothing pleasant about that room) not only they did not investigate it but also denied any editing and refused to remove it. Do not trust a word you see on their website.

You've paid for this booking!

Please show this confirmation at the front desk when you check in. Enjoy your stay at Van der Valk Hotel Heerlen!

Booking.com specifically asks you to show your confirmation when you arrive! I will have to keep hold of it and not let anyone take it away!
