Anyone have any suggestions on the best place to get a USD account? I need it for work as although i live here in the uk i am self employed and some companies are us and will only pay me in USD so need a good account to receive funds.

Most UK banks will open usd accounts for you but they may be based offshore.

UK banks usually require you to have a current account with them already in order to to open a foreign currency account, so try your own bank(s) first to see what they have.

For example, HSBC, who apparently do not charge a monthly fee for a USD account regardless of your balance:

Did you look into opening an account in the USA as I tried to suggest in your other thread? That would probably be more cost effective for you and convenient for your (presumably) US customers.

And what are you going to do with USD then?

I'm in the process of opening an HSBC USD account - well, what I mean is that it's over a week now since I applied online and I've heard nothing, but then HSBC have never been the fastest at opening accounts IMO.

Anyway, it does look (in theory) like one of the simplest/cheapest options around, and will definitely make it easier to use a broker to convert funds back to GBP...
