Noisy new neighbours

Hi.
Just looking for some constructive help regarding new neighbours.
They moved in the middle of June 2016 and promptly started to do as much sanding and scraping the walls within the first 2 weeks.
I can appreciate a new home has some diy wants and I overlooked the noise for that time.
They then decided to carry these noises on at 2am in the morning. I work rolling shifts and as I was on a shift that week, getting up for 4:30am, I wasn't prepared to have this noise going on directly behind my bed all week.
I sent her a letter about unacceptable hrs of noise and she apologised and said it wouldn't happen anymore.
A month later and apart from a week of silence from them; the Brexit week( they're eastern European) They have started dual drilling and hammering the walls, during the daytime.
The noise is so loud, you can't hear the tv, that and the property being a council build, so the walls are almost unpenetratable and I can't wear earplugs for more than an hr for irritation.
I've lived there 15 years with no noise issues, since they moved in.
I have spoken to them again, which they thought was just a casual complaint as one of them thought it was funny.
I've kept a nuisance diary this week and waiting for my council to contact me on my complaint.
As we both aren't council tenants, I don't initially feel we matter or someone to take interest in this complaint on the councils part.
In the meantime, I'm on nights and the drilling is constant from 3:30pm till goodness knows when.
Any advice in the meantime?
Much appreciated.

You could try speaking to them and explaining you work shifts but to be honest I do t think you'll get anywhere. They made noise at 2am ( which is unacceptable) but normal diy noise during the daytime is perfectly reasonable.
Unfortunately the fact that you work shifts is not their concern, if you're lucky they may be considerate, if not then I'd invest in some good earplugs.Determined to save and not squander!

Struggling to see the relevance of this bit? Do you think they're punishing you for the result?0 -
I didn't see or hear them that week. In fact, that's the only week I've had off. They have been off and on since and before then.0

I've told them I'm on shifts and quite frankly, it's a bit obvious when you live in a terraced house, you will only cause resentment, if you decide to batter the life out of your home and upset your neighbours. The close is of mixed neighbours, most living there longer than me and not causing any disturbance.
The house isn't dilapidated, as it's recently been refurbished. I know, as I've been in there twice, when it had different owners.0 -

I already mentioned these comments at the beginning.0 -

Thought that would be a good thing, as it's not in the morning.0 -
DIY is perfectly acceptable during the day, if you don't want to hear these usual household noises at acceptable times the choices are move to a detached property, get some fitted earplugs, or hope you get neighbours who neglect theit property.0

Not when you're on nights, it's not. My day with overtime is a 12hr day. Getting home 7-8am, would you want to be woken up by drilling after 6-7hrs disturbed sleep?
Besides, most people should be at work during the afternoons. Before you sumize, they don't work shifts.0 -

This comment is probably better directed at them, thank you.0 -

Sorry but your neighbours are doing nothing wrong by doing DIY in the afternoon even if you work shifts.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
