In the dark at getting best car insurance - comparison sites don't tally

Well it's time to renew my car insurance for another year. I was quoted pretty high by my existing AA for a 2002 Polo at £249 with no excesses.

I put in a search on 2 comparison sites and interestingly the same cover with the same company came up one for £175 and on the other site was more expensive at £226 so who do I trust ? Then there is the added possible cashback to think of. Do I go through a cashback site direct to an insurance company, or if via the cheapest quote on a comparison site, will I still earn the cashback ( as well as getting a possible better deal via a comparison site) ?

I just find it all a headache as there are lots of variables on buying insurance it can be stressful trying to just wade through it all.

If anyone has any help which will make this easier to get the best deal (obviously not a cheap and nasty company) I could perhaps get on with my life. Thanks

    You can trust either.

Comparison sites are like supermarkets. They can sell the same products as well as some specials unique to them. However, the prices will vary.

But would you go via a cashback site before you hit the comparison or get the quote from a comparison first, then go direct to the cheapest (and best) insurer via a cashback site ?

Cashback is not always the cheapest. You may get £50 cashback but a lot have found that the quote is at least £50 dearer than if you had gone direct.

Just to let you know I went via Top Cashback and got £25 direct to LV and still got a cheaper quote. Very happy (unless Top Cashback fails to track again)

ofc it's almost impossible to actually measure one insurance against another, certainly if circumstances arise where the car may have to be written off ALL policies will state you receive a "market value " cash payment in lieu of repairs, this can vary by considerable sums.
