Halifax Clarity credit card
Comments
-
Hi all, i went into the Halifax branch yesterday and they did a fee free cash advance of 3k straight in to my standard halifax account.
I checked on line today and the money is in, but it's not showing up on my Credit card (which is also visible on my online banking).
It says - "These transactions have been authorised for payment but haven’t yet been charged to your account."
Although my available balance has been deducted by 3k.
Do i have to wait to do a balance transfer to my AA card (24months of 0%)? or will it work anyway?
Thanks for any advice0 -

It wont have been fee free but attract the interest rate of your card either 12.95%, 16.95% or 21.95% depending on your individual interest rate.
the fee will be nominal though, you will be able to transfer the balance now as the card has pre authorised the withdrawal and any payment that hits the account will go against this when its applied to the statement in a few days (payment has to hit after the transfer is applied, it can take 2 - 3 days for BT to process)
Your AA card wont know what your balance is on the clarity card but if the payment is applied before the transfer shows you may find that Halifax return the balance transfer amount back to AA, as it will put the account in credit...
The choice is yours though, and I have not heard of this happening but its mention on your T&C's of the clarity card.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Used card a lot in SE Asia.
Just make payment when you take cash, they didn't charge me anything at all.0 -
As I post this from rural eastern France, our new Clarity cards have been very useful.
Please note that you need to advise Halifax of your travel destination and dates, to prevent your foreign transactions being regarded as possibly fraudulent and the card being declined. You can do this online, but this is only for the primary cardholder. It doesn't tell you that additional cardholders need to do this on the phone. This requirement is buried in the FAQs and I only found it by accident whilst looking fof something else.
However, the lack of online account management is an inconvenient surprise. If I'd have known this before applying, I'd have gone with one of the alternatives. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I don't have a smartphone. Being able to make phone calls when I really need to and only answering calls from numbers I recognise is all I ask of a mobile telephone. The only time I use an app is in the afternoon.
The people I contacted (via Halifax's Twitter service, the only way you can contact them online and for free from abroad and, IMHO, not fit for purpose: they need a secure messaging system manned by people who can offer customers more than every possible asssistance short of actual help) were convinced that this was because I wasn't registered for Online Banking. I am and have been for years for my current and a savings bank account. Not impressive. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?
