Tesco Silverburn - Highview Parking

Wow. There's nothing like a parking notice plopping on your mat first thing in the morning to put you in the worst of moods. Absolutely raging!
I had been totally unaware that Tesco Silverburn issues fines if you park in their section of the car park for over two hours. Silverburn offers thousands of free unrestricted car parking spaces, presumably to encourage us all to spend as much time as possible shopping and using the restaurants/ entertainment, so it seems totally bonkers to say that one part of the car park is time-limited. Wouldn't mind if it was actually clearly marked as you enter the Tesco part of the car park, but it isn't.
Anyway, I wasn't happy just leaving it just in case it escalated....but managed to get the notice cancelled immediately by contacting Tesco's Parking Helpline. It seems they now have a devoted team that have to deal with customers ranting at them 9-5pm. I pointed out that 1) the Notice I was sent only pictures my car entering and leaving the vicinity of the Tesco store, it does not evidence that my car was parked in the Tesco car park (one of the main exits leaving Silverburn takes you past the Tesco store, so theoretically I could have been parked anywhere and just be leaving....). 2) Legally (did a bit of trawling...) they are required to have clear signage on entrance to their section of car park and there isn't any and I would be visiting the store later to establish that fact photographically. It would be reasonable, in an otherwise unrestricted car park, to assume the same of this section without sufficient warning.
Going nowhere near Tesco ever again!

Silverburn... Scotland?
Ignore it, and the 5 or 6 chaser letters. They can and will do nothing0 -
Anyway, I wasn't happy just leaving it just in case it escalated.
But I am pleased to hear you complained to Tesco - they need to hear the wrath of customers about parking scumbag firms trying to extort money from Tesco customers.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD0 -
I live locally to Silverburn and the signage within the Tesco portion of the car park is pretty clear and visible, and it's clear enough what is Tesco and what are the main mall car parks. e.g. Tesco car park is called the Tesco car park, the others are red, green multi-storey etc.
It doesn't help that Tesco have removed about 20 spaces for their grocery collection service.
But the major reason Tesco's car park is usually so busy is of Silverburn's making in that all the restaurants and the cinema are at the Tesco end of the mall.
Multi-storey is big but isn't accessible from within the mall until half way down and extends all the way down to the other end. It's a fair old walk if you can only get a space at the far end.
Other ground level car parks above are always pretty rammed at busy periods and people are lazy.
Small car park on the back side of the mall which serves the health centre, swimming pool, library is also always packed for the same reason. Post Office and McDonalds are also at that end of the mall on the outside.
There are big signs about it not being parking for Silverburn but always ignored, and no PPC signage.
Used to be PPC controlled, although I think the land may actually be council owned. Never been bothered enough to actually find out since I knew I could tell any PPC to FO. :-)0
