I am aware ignoring the arrears wasn't incredibly stupid on my part, young people make stupid mistakes :( (also nte that it wasnt yrsrs and yesrs of not paying, just a couple months on both proprtys two years apart, which agaun i get that is my own doing but i still shouldnt owe her part of the arrears) the main point is that she should be paying her part and I need a way of ensuring that happens. Thank u all for advise I will try the councillor thing if in a couple weeks the letters haven't scared her into paying, again I'm happy to pay my half and i will do.
    Much appreciated :)!!

It isn't really 'her part of the arrears' as you are both liable for all of it, not half each.
Legally the whole debt is yours. equally it would have been hers if you had disappeared rather than her.
It's highly doubtful the collectors would bother to pursue her, contact her work, go to court for attachment to her earnings etc while you are paying.
There's no benefit to them, and they don't care about what's 'fair', only in collecting the debt from a liable person.
The only option for you is small claims, which you don't want to do, so you may ultimately have to take the loss on this one.

    Put your hands up.
