I would ask for a full break down of the costs (material and labour) in writing and point out that you made it clear that you had already arranged for the work to be done that day, and had two quotes of X and Y from qualified tradesmen, so do not understand why they went ahead rather than wait 2 hours, and ask them to explain this.
On the other hand, £175 isn't horrendous...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
