Would I qualify for carers allowance??

I live with my mother and care for her 24/7. She has been awarded pip with enhanced rate on both which starts tomorrow. I had my esa stopped earlier this year and have had no money what so ever since. Would I be entitled to claim carers?

Yes. You could possibly also claim Income Support as a Carer.

Yes you can claim, as you say you care for her more than 35hrs per week. You can do the claim online.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

"You must also fall into a category of people who do not have to look for work. This includes:
    • people getting Carer's Allowance
    • people who regularly care for someone who is getting Attendance Allowance, the highest or middle rate care component of Disability Living Allowance, either daily living component of Personal Independence Payment or Armed Forces Independence Payment"

Can I ask, how does getting IS work when you claim carers. Is it only certain people who would qualify for IS, such as those with children etc.

If you are have claimed CA, and the person for whom you are claiming is in receipt of a qualifying benefit (true in this case), you can claim Income Support. There are other conditions regarding savings/capital, earnings etc which can affect entitlement, which is why in my previous post I said "could possibly". You will receive the relevant rate of Income Support, minus the amount of Carers Allowance, plus Carers Premium. For a person over 25 the net amount is about an extra £45 per week on top of Carers Allowance.

You can claim Carers at the same time as ESA. The CA is taken into account on the ESA claim but you then get the Carers premium added to ESA. It's not a huge amount extra, but I suspect every penny counts in your situation. You really should investigate.

I am aware that if I claim CA, my relative will lose what HB he get's which is approx. £41 per week at present.

Why would they lose their Housing Benefit?

if they get an SDP on their income related benefit, by someone claiming CA for looking after them they could possibly love their income related benefit meaning HB could be affected.
