Non Amex Cashback Card

Hi, I'm looking to get a joint credit card with my partner to make it easier to split costs etc. We don't want an Amex because we want to be able to put everything through this card, and Amex is still not accepted in so many places. We will pay off the card each month in full.

All the cashback cards listed on MSE seem to be Amex. Anyone got suggestions for Visa/Mastercards cards that are available as joint cards and come with decent incentives?

Thanks!

There's no such thing as a joint credit card.

Every credit card I've ever had allows a second cardholder, but the account holder is completely liable for the second cardholder's spend.

A lot of Visa/MasterCard cash back cards are having their rates cut due to the EU cap on interchange fees or have annual fees.

There's the Santander 123 MasterCard (£3/month), NatWest/RBS offer a Rewards card (there's no promotional rates so you'd pay interest on your purchases unless you clear in full every month but if you have a Rewards current account with them they waive the £24 annual fee).

If you shop a lot at Tesco you can accrue Clubcard points and boost them through third party retailers (no annual fee but out of Tesco spend earns 1 point per £8 of qualifying spend).

I bank with Lloyds and have the Choice Rewards MasterCard/American Express duo. Annual fee of £24 but £12 is waived for being a Club Lloyds customer. I earn more points on the AmEx but for those who aren't AmEx participants I then use the MasterCard.

i use Asda Money and Barclaycard Cashback Visa as back ups to Amex at the moment, along with doing £100 of Debit Card contactless transactions with my TSB card.

Do either you or your partner have a Barclaycard? If so, you can request to switch this to the Barclaycard Cashback Duo account. You'll get a Visa and AMEX card. 0.5% cashback on the visa, 1% on the AMEX.

Nationwide Select Credit Card, gives 0.5% cashback.

Also, foreign spend is commission free, and further discounts (either as a %age, or a set amount with a minimum spend) at certain restaurants, shops etc.

E.g. 15% off Nicholson's, and Sizzling Pubs, 10% off David Clulow, Sunglasses Hut, Hilton Hotels, £15 off Adidas, Reebok purchases online etc.

Will need a Nationwide Current Account though.

Amex is listed because it's the best for cashback. But it's not the only cashback card. Personally where I shop I haven't yet found anywhere that doesn't accept Amex. Where it differs is branches where some accept Amex but don't accept the contactless Expresspay. There is also the possibility of extra cashback through offers in the mobile app.

Personally I go with Amex with a Lloyds Bank Mastercard backup.
