    Hi there
Whilst I understand that you are unable to work, is there any way your OH could get even a christmas temp job to help out? If they can't because they are caring for you, then they should get carers allowance, and you attendandance allowance?

Best of luck sorting it all out

  • Good news, upon a return phonecall from the council it appears that the bailiffs are giving the account back to the council, they will impliment an attachment of deductions of£3 a week to pay back the council tax I have been charged whilst on benefits, I know that its not right that I owe this money but I am fighting it but untill I get the glory I will pay what they think I should. Oh and that means theres no walk in possession oreder to worry about anymore, thats a great deal taken off my mind, everytime a knock was at the door I didnt know what to do. (I still dont really, part of the parcel of anxiety I suppose)

    Chevalier.
Unfortuantly husband cant work as he looks after me and my daughter. But I do not recieve the middle/higher rate DLA to be able to claim carers/attendance allowence.

    Thanks for your help.

£20 a week for electricity, gas and water seems very high.

Are you on prepay meters for gas and electric. Does this include arrears deductions? We are on prepay and pay about £35 a month on electric in a two bed flat.

Do you use a tumble dryer or electric heater alot as these can eat up the electric bill?

Also £20 for gas seems high for this time of year (unless of course with your disability you need extra heating on all year?).

I thought the tv licence was about £12 a month - how come you have to pay £30??

  • Excellent news about the bailiffs. If only councils told the individuals that by law they can have council tax arrears deducted at source from income support at just £2.90 per week.

    And no bailiffs...........

Thanks for the info ref DLA etc. But if your OH can't work because he is looking after you/daughter, then perhaps you should chat to the CAB about appealing. They may decide you are entitled to higher rate DLA etc on appeal, which would open the gateway to the other benefits I mentioned.

Also ref the water arrears. Whilst this won't help them, I believe that there is a vulnerable persons tariff which caps how much they can charge you for water rates. You may well qualify if you are on DLA, so this might save you a bit here too.

  • I know it wont help now as your daughter is home but if she or any other member of your family has to stay in hospital for more than 2 days you can ask for a carpark/meal subsidery form. All hospitals have them and definitly if you stayed in hospital with your child you should have got one. They usually only charge you £5.00 for the whole of your stay with this form, it is at the discretion of the ward sister but I have never not given it when asked. You can save quite a bit with it, so remember next time.
  • Elec, Gas, and water are being paid back on a weekly basis at an agreed rate. I do not use an electric dryer or heater.

The t.v licence is this high because we have to pay for this years and next on a direct debit scheme. then we will go to the lower payment.

20 quid water because we need topay off arrears.

I;ll ask about the DLA cares allowence, to be fair I know its a bit of a jaunt to get accepted, I just worry too much about the stress it causes.

  • can you not phone up the utilities and rearrange a lower payment per month until you get yourselfs back on track?

From april it became £3 per week.

And it will only take nearly 10 years to clear off the £1500 at that rate.......good news for the Council, I'm sure........:o
