We did when we had our male and it worked purely because we have very good friends who live close who took him out for a play with their dog who is also his best friend
Now we have Froo I am having trouble working full time and that's with my OH at home. She has separation anxiety.
It's true small dogs get babied more
Mine are JRTs so lapdog that aren't as they are still a working breed. This needs to be favoured in as if you don't work their minds they will, this leads to broken and chewed stuff.0 -

We used to have two springers, who were not as hyper as many of the breed. They were only left a couple of hours in a morning, between our leaving for work and my father being able to arrive to walk, groom and generally amuse them, yet they did, over the years, do some damage, through even short time boredom and with companionship.
The most recallable incidents were when they chewed the door frame in an attempt to open the door to the kitchen and how they worked out how to open doors by swinging on the handles (handled exterior doors had to be key locked thereafter).0 -
My two like to chase each other
They also play hide and seek
Constantly finding them under/behind stuff and trying to figure out how they got there0 -
Definitely depends on the breed/temperament of the dog as well. We have two greyhounds who sleep all day whether there's someone here or not. When we go home to see them on a lunchtime we sometimes have to go and wake them up!
You don't want to get a breed that's alert and looking for stimulation for hours a day and then leave them bored and alone - that's just asking for behavioral issues.0
