I like to put sale boneless skinless chicken thighs in with taco seasoning, garlic salt (I use Rotel canned tomatoes but they probably aren't available in the UK??) so diced tomatoes and some type of chile>> diced jalepanos or red chile flakes. When done I shred the meat for chicken tacos or burritos.
I'm about out of my stockpile of these cheap thighs and need to start looking for a sale again.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thanks Smiley - a happy combination of a sensible mum & grandma, a love of cooking, finding that feeding a growing family on a budget needs creativity, and a bit of luck as well!
I'm also lucky enough to live in an area where fsrmers' markets aren't just for posh people, game is cheap, and lots of people have big gardens / sllotments

The weather it terrible here so I've got a stew on to warm us up later, which I found here: http://www.thecookierookie.com/slow-cooker-guinness-beef-stew/

Let you all know how it goes down later!

It's awful here too, my slow cooker is also out.

I've just chopped some mushrooms and an onion, tossed some diced beef in flour, added a couple of cloves of garlic, black pepper, parsley, pandasia (a mix of herbs including chilli flakes that we buy from Greece), hot paprika and a beef stock cube.

With the addition of creme fraiche (half a pot left over from goulash) just before serving it'll turn into stroganoff and I'll serve it with rice.

We often have the Hairy Dieters Beef goulash on a weekend, lovely with rice, mash or crusty bread.

This recipe will feed 4+ people depending on how you like your portions, but also freezes well.

    It usually tastes lush. :D
To be MSE, I tend to schedule a goulash with mushrooms & green/red/yellow peppers served with tagliatelle to use half a pot of creme fraiche and a week or so later do a stroganoff to use the rest of the creme fraiche.

On our way home from the pub, hope the slow cooker has behaved.

I do like to add flour to the raw ingredients - be it as above or potatoes, carrots, swede etc as I find that the newer slow cookers don't seem to cook as well as my fab but deceased original that was 42 years old.
I'm still on a mission to find a replacement in a charity shop.

I love my slow cooker and use it for as much as I can - I also batch cook and portion and freeze meals for another day!

If I'm busy in the morning I prep it all the night before for the SC - same if I know I'm going to be tired after work I prep it all the day before & keep it in a Tupperware tub so I can throw it in a pan or oven dish.

    I make:

    Spaghetti bolognase
    Chilli
    Curry
    Shepherds pie
    Pasta sauce
    Casserole
Jacket potatoes ( bungled in an oven while it's on for something else and frozen)
Sweet potatoe chips ( chopped and frozen)
Soup (in not great to be honest)

I also portion up my meat and fish into the portions we will eat it in so there is no waste.

Search slow cooker on line and you get loads of great ideas!

The best low prep meal is when cooking something double/treble up and put the excess in the freezer.
