Help wanted on where to buy in Leeds

Hi,

I am soon to be on the lookout to move house in Leeds. My OH works in the City Centre and I am currently working in West Leeds but my role may change in the next 12 months. We are trying for children and want the next house to be close to some good schools.

Can anyone recommend a good area to look? We already live in Kirkstall and like the area so would consider Horsforth also. Any recommendations are very welcome.

Many thanks
Stereo.

 Horsforth is ~ 2 miles from Kirkstall, surely you know what it's like there?

A lot of people seem to like Horsforth, but I really don't like it.

A lot of young families like Calverley with is nice. Lots of community events and good school.

If you can afford it Rawdon, Guiseley, Yeadon, Adel, Pool and Bramhope are all nice.

If you think your working location may change in 12 months, I'd wait IMO. The traffic in and around Leeds is a nightmare. I wouldn't want to live on one side and work on the other with that rush hour traffic ...

Very true if you work "normal" working hours. If you can travel off peak it isn't as bad.

The work situation isn't a problem as I won't be travelling in peak hours and I have a degree of say so on the location anyway.

The areas suggested by Kathrynha are on my list so will do some more research :) Thanks!

Horsforth is nice, but a bit posh for my liking. There's a 'better than you vibe' sometimes.

Headingley and Chapel Allerton are both nice - they used to be really studenty, but a lot of those students have since stuck around and become young professionals and yummy mummies (the delis are always full of prams!). There are still studenty bits, so it's worth checking them out in term time to figure out where the hotspots are (and in Headingley, it's also worth checking it out on the day of a big cricket or rugby game to see where people park). Keep away from the Otley run!

To be fair, Kirkstall would be pretty high up my list too, especially if I was thinking of kids, because there's lots of lovely open space around there and the Abbey and museum are great for a day out.
