I have read a post which has concerned me. A user on this forum has tracked down a users activity on another forum - then posted direct links showing that users activity on this forum. I have joined MSE from another UK based forum and I am concerned for the safety of my privacy. I don't fancy having a creep cyber stalking me. If this is not against your rules: would it be possible for me to have a username change?

Privacy?! You're posting under the name TE1979. Assuming that's not your real name, how could anyone possibly invade your privacy or stalk you?
Anything you post on public forums is, well, public. And unless you give out your name and address, no one will know who you are or how to track you down, so won't be able to stalk you.
Are you sure you're not worrying about nothing?0 -
Simple answer is to have a different username on each forum you use0

Out of interest did you think about privacy when you posted the real name and background of a poster from here who also posted on the forum you used to post on?Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -

Out of interest did you forget to mention in your post about me only addressing him by his Christian name?
Out of interest did you forget to not include the fact that my post does not include the name of the forum we used?
Out of interest did you forget to include that my post has not been designed to humiliate or damage the reputation of the person with direct links to their profile on another forum - like what did happen in the post I am concerned about?
Out of interest what was the intention of obsoleting my post?
Out of interest did you not think before making your post that by me addressing my friend by his Christian name - shows that I know him on a personal level?
Out of interest next time you try and distort my post by means of deceit - don't do it where the moderators can view the posts.0 -
Are we talking about this HBK/Nathan fellow? He's pretty well known everywhere as he uses the same user name, even on Twitter.я твой слуга, я твой работник0

Out of interest did you think about not including my request for people to give him a chance by telling them he is a nice boy?

Simple answer is, yes it happens, it happened to someone I know and personal details were shared on a couple of fora by someone who set out to stalk them. Using a different name on every forum is vitally important.0 -
not only different names but use the name on a forum that is used by someone else on another forum/anywhere and generic if possible
you want google searches to get populated with as much stuff from as many places as you can.0 -

That sounds awful confusing.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

This sounds all confusing. I really don't think it is the forum. Anyone can trace anyone these days. I am a very good researcher. All I need is a name, and roughly where they live. 192.com is open to everyone, that gives an address. Yes we are all one the electoral role. There is a free BMD site on line. That leads me to a marriage, then a birth. I have tracked down many a missing person this way, as I lost contact with some friends, when I thief stole my bag, that contained my address book. I also trace family history. Face book is another place to find people. I am afraid we live in an era of everyone knows everything. People sometimes pass on your info, not out of spite, or something untoward, but because they forget, everything is so public these days. Tips0
