How many nights by the beach do you fancy?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

internal flights are cheap so fly into Bangkok and head north to Chiang Mai then south to Phuket / Koh Samui then back to Bangkok to fly home
get currency when you are out there as exchange is way better than home here
loads of good advice on tripadvisor from locals"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
Check out the wildlife in the Khao Yai national park -- my first experience of being charged by a wild elephant!0

You too..?! It happened to me about thirty years ago, driving through after dark.Voyager2002 wrote: »Check out the wildlife in the Khao Yai national park -- my first experience of being charged by a wild elephant!Evolution, not revolution0 -
Kanchanaburi, Hellfire Pass, and the Bridge over the River Kwai are all within easy reach by train from Bangkok, and very easy to do under your own steam...

If you want a 3 night itinerary just ask.
Also Ayutthaya, the old capital of Siam is an easy 1 or 2 night trip from Bangkok.0 -
A few years ago we did 3 nights in Bangkok where we did our own thing ... We got about on the sky train & boats that cost about 3p for a boat trip, loved Terminal 21 for food. 3 nights in Chaing Mai, but would've liked to have done longer. We rode the elephants & watched as one of them did a painting  Went in the cage with tigers here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g1766192-d1151436-Reviews-Tiger_Kingdom-Mae_Rim.html. Spent 8 days in Hua Hin at the beach, which was a bit too long for us as we ain't beachers. I rented a bike & rode it (I knew I shouldn't have but couldn't help it) round the pool as security chased after me
) My first multi & one of my best holz!
Just make sure they don't rip you off with the floating market trip, read reviews on TA so you have a rough idea of the price.0 -

That would be great a itinerary
Pete was thinking of about 5 days in the North then fly South0 -

I would agree with Bangkok (no more than 3 nights though) then north to Chiang Mai (and/or Chiang Rai) but both Phuket and Samui will be expensive and busy in December. If you are looking at somewhere for more peace and quiet then I'd look at some of the resorts around Krabi or Ko Chang0
