Going to have my house rewired, and need to know what paper work I need, know I need something to prove it was done by a competent person, if I sell my house in the future.

You need an Electrical Installation Certificate from the Electrician. The document will be supplemented with a Schedule of Inspections and Schedule(s) of Test Results.0

Just to be awkward, the rules are different in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
But if you're having major electrical work done, it will probably need to be registered with the local council. An electrician who is a member of one of the schemes can notify through their scheme. Otherwise, you have to notify the council in advance and pay their (extortionate) fees.
So check that they are registered with one of the schemes. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Seeing as all domestic electrical work in England and Wales has to comply with Part P of the building regs, I should hope so too!
I'm guessing what they really mean is that they can self certify any notifiable work and notify building control on your behalf, but you should clarify this. Once the work has been notified you should also get a building control completion certificate from the council.0 -
Tricky as cert doesn’t really prove much?
Certainly not that they are or have registered works or they have carried them out just that someone has issued a cert? Keep quote/estimate, invoice and proof of payment not saying you shouldn’t have a cert ( more important is that its registered some governing bodies send out cert that would be more important than cert, test results etc from electrician/company themselves)
With Certs you can issue one with “ faults” observation, deviations from regs etc and most clients don’t understand or even look at them so easy to manipulate? , Some but not all local authorities send an acknowledgement e.g Building Regulations Compliance Notice that you have had some notifiable work done ( not what it is though )
Clarify if they or who is responsible for notifying governing body / local authority ( preferably have written confirmation of so on quote etc ) If you don’t receive notification from either of the above within 1-2 mths call them to find out whats going on0
