Barclays Additions Plus missold - complaint rejected

I used Martin's template to complain to Barclays regarding the miss-selling of my Barclays Additions Plus bank account. I've received a letter from Barclays, stating that my complaint is outside of the time limits allowed. I upgraded to the account in 2007 and closed it in 2009. According to Barclays, I should have raised my complaint by 2012.
Has this happened to anyone else? Should I take my complaint to the Ombudsman?
Any advice or experience would be welcome! Thanks

Yes, it's happened to many other people - banks are entitled (but not obliged) to reject complaintsmore than:
(a) six years after the event complained of; or (if later)
(b) three years from the date on which the complainant became aware (or ought reasonably to have become aware) that he had cause for complaint
If a bank rejects a claim on legitimate time-barring grounds then you'd be wasting your time going to FOS as they won't overrule it (see https://www.handbook.fca.org.uk/handbook/DISP/2/8.html#D471).0
