Anybody else been called by this company?

SafeFinance (dot co dot uk)

Offering meetings for mortgage reviews. Sounded legit enough and didn't ask for any account numbers or dates of birth or other identifying information.

* EDIT *

Edited to add - and I should really have mentioned this originally - that they said they got my details from Money Save Expert. (Not a brilliant line so I thought they meant here.) Said they were offering mortgage reviews and have offered an appointment with an advisor.

Woman was named Ange Gooding.

  • I haven't heard of these personally, not to say they aren't legitimate though.

I would question how they obtained your contact details if you wasn't expecting their call, or if you haven't made any recent on-line enquiries.

Cant be that legit if they are cold calling. That is not allowed with borrowing.

I thought I would check the FCA register and used the details from the safe finance site.

Their is no entry on the register for their Northants Office. (Also, the Strixton Manor Business Centre do not have this firm showing as a established business at that location)
The Central London office is not real. It is a virtual office. It is an "office" that the FCA has listed for several consumer warnings for scams/acting outside authorisations. Again, this company is not on the FCA register under this address.
The London office is also not on the FCA register. However, the address is recorded with a scam/unauthorised activity warning. (it also appears to be another virtual office as virtual assistants operate out of that address as well as suites for actual office space)
The registered office (in Manchester) does match the FCA register.

The problem with virtual offices is that they are used by genuine firms and scams/dodgy firms. So, they could just be unlucky by using a address that happens to be associated with activity that is in breach of FCA rules or unlawful.

I would say that on face value that the firm is genuine in that it exists and is authorised by the FCA. It appears to use some unfortunate virtual offices. However, if it is cold calling as the OP suggests then that is in breach of FCA rules.

Any firm that breaches the rules to obtain business should not be considered legit. What other rules are they breaking?

Sound like a bunch of chancers to me. Either they are cold callers or are getting their employees to spam the boards. I suggest no one marks the OPs post as spam so that this thread is left as a record.

Sorry for taking a while to reply.

They said they got my details through MSE.

I did check the FSE register but I didn't know about the virtual offices thing. That is a little worrying.

As this was your first post on the MSE forum. How did they get your details from here? Not that personal information is available in any event. Seems a few broking houses are short of business judging by recent activity on this particular sub forum recently.
