VCS & BW Legal

Hi guys,
Hope you can help. I've been reading the forum for quite some time and looking at various options I may have for this one but it's not immediately clear given the length of time this has been going on.
Around three years ago, two years after I'd joined the company, the business park where I work brought in a permit system with VCS to patrol it. I was absolutely fine with this until one day last year, I forgot my permit and got myself a ticket. Rather than acknowledge this, which is perhaps what I should have done at the time, I ignored it and continued to do so until relatively recently.
I've had the usual letters from VCS, DRP and Zenith but it's only since May that VCS informed me that "my account had been passed to their legal team" that BW Legal have got involved and sent me a couple of menacing letters. The latest is the 'Final Notice' which I understand a few people have received the Letter Before Claim following this.
I therefore took the advice of the forum and responded with the template to say I deny the debt and refer the matter back to their client. My question is, what do I write to VCS given the length of time without initial acknowledgement? Obviously, there is no loss for them as although the permit was not on display, if my car was not parked there, then no other car should have been parked in its place.
I have also contacted the business park to ask them to cancel the PCN and am awaiting a response but would appreciate some advice from you guys in terms of what to send VCS now that I've told BW Legal to go back to them.

Await contact from them.
You are at debt collector letters stage and no need to respond to them.
Take care not to admit that you were the driver!0 -
It's still a debt collectors letter, so I would have ignored it and only reacted if a letter before claim had been issued.0

BW Legal letters have been discussed a lot and there are example responses you can send. You might find an example by searching 'BW Legal £54' or 'BW Legal faithfully' which should flush out a thread with a formal letter.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for the quick replies Quentin and yotmon. I didn't want to give them a bite unnecessarily but there was something about this latest batch of letters that seemed like they were going to move to the next stage.0

You're not alone, I received a letter this morning notifying me that they were acting on behalf of VCS and claiming the extra £54.00 for their client's legal costs - yeah right !0

Thanks Coupon-mad. That's really helpful.
