Peugeot 206
Not sure if anyone can help but any advice would be great
My 2002 Peugeot all off a sudden has started to over heat. I was driving home and my car was telling me to stop. There's no leaks, oil and radiator water is all topped up. It takes about 15 mins to get to 90c and then if I don't have my heaters on it will over heat then it will reach the last bar and hit the red really quick. Once my heaters are on it come back down again but that's the only thing that stops it from over heating.....
Any ideas?? Cheers

Radiator blocked?0

We've checked it briefly but have not drained it, this has been going on for about 2 months0

Or failed thermostat.0

Would a local garage be able to find these issue? Is a thermostat expensive?0
-
Thermostat should be less than £20 and is easy to check.
Drain the coolant and then remove the thermostat. Make sure it is cold then drop it in hot water - you should see it open, if not it has failed and needs replaced.0 -

Is there a chance it could be the gasket? Iv'e had no leaks and oils lid and that stuffs all okay?0
-
If you're not losing coolant it won't be the head gasket.
Is your fan coming on when the engine gets hot? Could be a defective fan, blown fuse or failed fan sensor.
Still, Thermostat stuck shut would be favourite.0 -
Sounds like it could be the radiator fan of the engine overheats in slow moving traffic.
It could also be a water pump problem, though that is probably less likely.0 -
It's the coolant thermostat, it's jammed closed and not allowing coolant into the radiator.
The stat normally stays closed until the engine warms up. Age, really old coolant and/or short journeys can cause them to fail.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
