Holiday adverts offering Holiday deals followed by the word From

We were looking at advertisements for holidays both in Europe and the UK for July. They stated special offers quoting a price that seems a good deal followed by the words FROM. The prices bore no reflections of the price you were asked to pay and could not find a holiday at the price quoted. I think think is mis-selling and a scam.

I have had the same problem just today funnily enough. I've been looking on icelolly.com and they were advertising 7 nts in Corfu from £155, checked the apartments on trip adviser, all ok, phoned up "oh that's with an indirect flight which is now fully booked, the direct flight is £277"

A similar thing happened over 5 phone called, the travel agents just could not find the deals on the icelolly.com website. I've given up with online sites I'm just going to go to my local travel agents and book that way.

It's like a lot of the shops (you know the ones I mean) always having ''sales''.
I always price a holiday to the amount I am willing to pay - sometimes I find a really cheap flight only to find the accomodation expensive.
  • Any holiday offer that includes the word From is almost certainly not going to be a good deal. Often you end up paying more with the additional extras (hold baggage, transfers etc) than the original holiday price.

The prices say from because they fluctuate. Airfares and accommodation go up and down frequently. The days of printing brochures with actual prices in are long gone. Prices are only applicable when you actually book, and are always subject to change prior to that point. It's just common sense. Also because that price is the base price, then you add on any extras etc that you personally want eg luggage/extra luggage, upgrades, sitting together, room upgrades, private transfers etc etc

If you're referring to shonky OTAs then the only way they can advertise prices is to say from. They don't have live pricing. By the time they contact their supplier to actually book what you request online the airfare, accommodation or both could have risen in price.
