in Credit cards
I am flipping annoyed with my card provider at this moment in time, as they have closed my RBS Mint credit card account due to lack of use.
Admittedly, I have yet to use the card in anger and originally opened it to transfer a balance from another account.
However, I had a letter from Mint a few months ago telling me they would close my account if I did not intend to use it, and to contact them if I wanted the account to remain open. I did so in writing - and wanted to actually use my card last week only to notice it had expired.
I called them to find out the account had been closed, despite my express instruction not to, and no - i don't have a copy of the letter as I stupidly trusted them to get things right.
The whole point of a credit card is for a rainy day - not to use monthly, weekly etc, but the companies don't seem interested in your custom unless they can make some interest charges from you.
I now find myself having to apply from scratch if I want a credit card to my name, and subject myself to a credit check - thus lowering my score.
Don't think I'll be applying to my previous provider somehow - so I guess they got their wish. I'm disappointed with the way these companies go about their business though.
Apologies for the rant. Feel better now!

ps. Are Capital One still the no1 choice for those not needing to transfer a balance?0

Why would you expect any company to run a service for you at no cost to you but with a cost to them and no income. Would you do it?0

Why didnt you call them,
I think all the credit companies are the same, if theres no activity on the card they will close the account,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

Correct
You sent a letter and heard nothing else
You should have chased up a confirmation or phoned in the first place
You state they ignored your written instruction but the likehood is they never received it
Furthermore they dont need to accept your instruction if its clear you have no intention of using it as banks stand to lose money when they have open accounts with no use0 -

Any card that i'm keeping to continue to use, I make sure I make a transaction at least every other month to keep it active.
Credit card companies are starting to get into online statements so in the future there won't be such a cost in stamps and admin time sending out statements, so hopefully they will continue to keep cards open for low value users. I pay by direct debit (full value) as well.Indecision is the key to flexibility
