That makes sense regarding your benefits now. You should inform them about the reduction in capital due to the funeral though and claim the CTS you're now entitled to.
As to your original question, I've not heard of anyone claiming WTC for income made online before.
You would presumably have to class yourself as self employed.
I do know that HMRC have recently tightened up on cases where they suspect a person's employment not to be genuine, in response to people claiming to work at jobs that don't exist in order to claim WTC following a reduction in their income due to the benefit cap.
Not to say you're not genuine, just that it may not be automatically accepted.
Your options are to put in a claim and see what they say; I can't think of anyway this could be a detriment to you.
Or alternatively seek advice from CAB as they may have experience of similar claims.

You're welcome, this board should help people claim what they're entitled to.
I'm interested in this, and will have a look into it today, and update if anything useful.

Had a look at this, and agree with HappyMJ. The work you do must either make a profit, or be reasonably expected to make a profit, during all the 30 hours you are engaged in the work.
Therefore, it follows that only the hours you spend actually doing the surveys you are paid for count.
Time looking for surveys or starting and not qualifying probably wouldn't count.
Equally, the work should be economically viable, so the money you earn should be reasonable for the hours worked.
That said, there is nothing to lose by making a claim so you should do so and see how you get on.

This gives an idea of what you can include as working hours - https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/claimant-compliance-manual/ccm6755

Below is a list of possible activities but it is no exhaustive

The hours to be counted will include

    - any which will be costed to the client/customer as spent in producing/providing the individual order or service
    - trips to wholesalers and retailers
    - visits to potential clients for giving quotes etc
    - time spent on advertising or canvassing business
    - cleaning the business premises or space used specifically for business purposes
    - cleaning a vehicle used as part of the business, for example taxi
    - travelling for the purposes of the business, but not from home to their business premises
    - book keeping
-research work, for example where the customer is an established author. Research carried out be persons who are not established authors, but are working in the hope of one day becoming established will not count
