Old Style Daily Sunday 3rd July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread dumpling.
Back home and it's still damp though there's blue skies. I just went out into the garden to bring in strawberries and the rain started again.
I have no idea what the day will bring. Plan A was to do a white wash and go for a walk. No Plan B yet, it's too early.
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I thought I would start us all off as I am up bright and early.
It's dry and fairly bright here this morning, it has rained in the night though so it feels quite cool at present.
I went to my DD's hen night yesterday for a little while. She looked so happy that it made my heart glad. The meal was quite disappointing though, all style and no substance plus it was served on a wooden chopping board which I can't stand. What is wrong with plates?
Anyway, I left before dessert as I couldn't cope being out any longer but my DD said she was really pleased I had managed to stay as long as I did. I can see on Face book that she had a lovely time and hopefully she won't have too sore a head this morning.
Judi, it was lovely to read your posts again and I think you are being remarkably restrained about your settee. I would be so angry at the lack of respect for my things. Hope it can be repaired.
Mrs LW, what lovely news from your daughter. I hope she has a happy, healthy pregnancy.
Hilstep, I'm glad you are feeling a little bit better and I am glad your OH is looking after you now.
My hubby wasn't feeling very well last night, truth be told he has felt unwell for the past 10 days but being a man he won't go to the doctors. He was quite shaky yesterday though so I am hoping he will reconsider. I hope it's nothing serious but he needs to get checked out. I will try and persuade him to go tomorrow if he still feels poorly.
We are having roast chicken for dinner today but I think I will be cooking it for a change. I bought 2 large chickens as I want lots of leftovers as I am planning a pie and a curry in the week.
Well that's it from me for now, hope you all enjoy your Sunday. Take care xx0 -
Morning all
What great news Mrs LW.
Judi nice to see you posting.
Hilstep hope you are doing ok.
Anyone know how long Lamewolf was away for, I thought she should be back by now.
I went out last night, the 2nd time in two days, in between I looked after DD1's toddler twins and her 10 & 11 year old, she was taking her 16 year old to the hospital for an appointment.
It's sunny here today but I don't know if it will last, I have got DGS's uniform ready for next week.
I've fed the fish and taken a cuppa up to hubby, I'm going for a walk and then I'll fill up the bin with garden rubbish, hubby cut down a tree that was poorly sick last week and it wouldn't all fit in the bin last week.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all. The sun is streaming in and the sky is blue! And today's on-line BBC forecast says we are not going to have any rain! Plus yesterday's strong winds have dropped so, hopefully, I can get out in the garden and do some much needed weeding.
No other plans for today but the Hoover multi steam cleaner is STILL in its box so I really must get round to fishing out the instructions and have a play with that at some point!
Today's lunch is yet to be named so I'll have a freezer rummage shortly and maybe get some chops out to defrost, to have with assorted veg. There is still a bit of last night's wild mushroom chicken left so that will do for tea.
Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Nice bright day here but it was like this yesterday and every so often we would have a huge downpour, it was VERY busy at work we did not stop all day and every time is rained everyone came in the cafe! I think we sat down for a quick lunch at 3.20 !
Back there today which is my last day of 7 so I am very tired and very much looking forward to two days off.
OH in charge of meals / cleaning he made a lovely curry yesterday with Bombay potatoes it was really tasty.
Hilstep take care of yourself xx
Mrs LW how exciting :T lovely news x
Have good days all XX0 -
Good morning, not actually raining but looks as though it probably will. What a good sentence that wasn't, nor this.
Son appears to have recovered from the date of horror and went out with his mate last night, he has stopped over, they mostly do.
Judi, good to see you posting I'd have been displeased about the sofa too, unfortunately our sofas are on their last legs it wouldn't take much to break them, possibly the result of many years of accommodating a lot of large young men as the sitting room has been used as a dormitory. One of them is nearing 7 feet tall and strongly built too, far too big for my aged sofa. Have you tried putting some cut up lemons in the fridge, that can work.
I've been wondering where Mrs Lame Wolf is too.
Today is much like yesterday with the addition if ironing, which I did the other day but needs doing again, rats.
Friend's husband is doing a long walk for cancer research, several at work will be doing race for life. I don't do it as for me it would be stagger slowly for life but my left foot is improving gradually through remembering to do physio. So next year I might manage, or might do the local annual zombie walk with a friend, that one sponsors the local children's hospital. For this year, I've just sponsored. Mostly cancer research but also a greyhound rescue thing.
Hilstep, hope you feel better today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

My steam cleaner is still in its box tooI can't wait to have emptied all the boxes and be able to find things . Builders said they would help assemble chairs for breakfast bar tomorrow so I will be able to sit down in the kitchen.
DDs and SIL stayed over last night and I will offer breakfast once I hear them moving around upstairs. Bacon and eggs are available and I defrosted some sausages last night. I even managed to make two portions of a chicken, veg and noodle dish to freeze so that is a start.
Forecast is dry and I have a white wash to hang outside before going out on a shopping trip with dd. Not sure if youngest will be able to join us but if she does she is looking for an interview outfit for a fortnight ahead.
The airing cupboard is now full of neatly stacked towels but I still have several wash loads of clean laundry to sort out and put away . If we have lunch out then I can have something simple like an omelette for tonight.

I am so glad your daughter enjoyed her evening and that you were able to stay as long as you did. I agree with you about serving ideas. I have seen wooden trenchers, slates and galvanished flower pots used. :rotfl: I wonder that they don't go the whole hog and serve a meal on thick slices of heavy bread like the trenchers of medieval times or even earlier.

ELONA and DUMPLING We went to a "posh" new place last winter and the meal ("posh" fish and chips) came on baking type paper in shallow wooden crates. What I would call a tomato crate. I would have preferred a plate!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Good Morning everyone a bright and sunny day here in north Kent and I can actually see some blue sky for a change
:):)
I too hate the idea of eating off a bread board, I took my DGS Ben out to lunch a couple of weeks ago and the food was lovely but spoiled by the wooden plank it was served on I know its supposed to be 'rustic and authentic' but I hate it I much prefer to eat off a proper plate that I know has been thoroughly washed . bearing in mind this wasn't a cheap meal If I had known the food was served up thus I would have gone somewhere else (plus there were ants on the table,as the cubed sugar was in a washed out empty Tate and Lyle syrup tin !!!) when I told the waitress her reply was 'Well were are out in the country you know ' !!!,quite what that had to do with it I'm not sure.A bit too rustic for my liking ,food was excellent but the rest of it let the place down.
Well its Sunday and as usual I will be doing my menu plan for the week and prepping veg for the week as well, while listening to the Archersmuch the same as I do every Sunday.A morning mile comes first after my first infusion of coffee to kick start my inner motor
I like to do this short walk every morning if I can as it always makes me feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed :)even nicer when the weather is bright and sunny.Surprising who you see regularly in the morning and I see folks flower beds are coming along nicely in their front gardens.its semi rural where I live a sort of largish village ,but no where near enough to be called a town, still with people who will say good morning to you even if they don't know you, which is nice.
Hope everyone has a good day what ever they are doing Well done dumpling you are coming on in leaps and bound honey
Cheers chums JackieO xx0 -
Dumpling just Google We Want Plates.
I've been served fish and chips on a plank with the chips in a little baby supermarket trolley and the fish wrapped in mock newspaper.I've seen food served in flowerpots though wasn't actually eating, on that occasion I just had a fruit drink and that came in a jam jar with a handle. I could go on, I prefer my food on a plate. Or an item that can go through a restaurant dishwasher. No, I have the very thing, a washed out tomato tin, I must just retrieve it from the recycling box.
Having written that, I must now admit that I've just eaten a slice of toast from the breadboard. Just off to make a cup of tea but maybe I'll have it in the measuring jug. Or a wellyboot.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
