Refused a basic account?

I tried to open a Barclays basic account as I am applying for bankruptcy but they said I could only open a current account because basic accounts are reserved for people with bad credit which I don't have yet. Does this sound strange to anyone else?

I would certainly question that I know when I complete an application for someone it gives me the option to say they've specifically requested the basic account - can't really comment on Barclays as I don't work for them.. Suggest you try another bank a lot of them do let you apply online as well and you can apply for the specific account you want :-)

I do work for a bank however any comments I make are my own and should not be seen as me giving advice or in any connection to my employer.

Staff get more points for a 'normal' account then they do Basic Bank Accounts (BBA), these go towards the branch and their own targets which is for bonuses.

With Barclays you can apply for a normal account online and if you fail the credit score it will offer a BBA and send out the application pack via the post.

If you're applying for bankruptcy then you will have bad credit as you wouldn't be applying for it otherwise.
