Garage repair gone wrong again.
I wonder if anyone can help or advise on where i stand.
Less than 2 months ago on my way to an airport my clutch went. I was recovered to a local garage (100 miles away from my home town) and the clutch and other bits were replaced and repaired. 2 months on and £650 lighter, the same happened in my home town. So I have basically lost the clutch and hydrolic fluid and my car is un drivable. Does anyone know where i stand with the fact that the repair was done only 2 months ago? The recovery company suggested that i can get my car recovered to the garage that that garage? I have worked out that it will cost me about £180 to get it to that garage, upgraded membership and petrol back, without taking into account that i will have to take a day off. Does anyone know where is stand and what are my rights in demanding that the garage fixes the problem?? Thanks

Have you spoken to the original garage with regards to any warranty?0

You sure you don't just have a hydraulic fluid leak from the slave cylinder and the clutch itself is ok? Where's the fluid leaking from....0

Well.. yes the fluid from the slave cylinder has leaked... you are right the clutch itself may be ok, and a couple of other parts they replaced too... So that may be one good thing, but dont they always replace these things at the same time (i guess as they did them only 2 months ago and they are ok then they would not need replacing??) although was told by the recovery guy that as the fluid leaked the clutch will need replacing too? plus on my car its 6-8 hrs work to get to the cylinder, which i think is the biggest expense?0

What parts were replaced previously?
Did they replace the master cylinder or slave cylinder?
It is not inheard of to have more than one failure in the same system after repairs have been done.
If the master and slave cylinders where both done it is possible that the fluid loss is due to a pipe or union failure.
The location of the garage makes no difference.
You still have a warranty on the job. And certainly on the parts.0 -
You need to look at the paper work and see what you were charged for.
Not many garages will do hydraulic clutches without new cylinder and seals kit as it is a common failure down the line.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Also if you got brake/hydraulic fluid on the clutch plate you will most likely have to replace it again as it will contaminate the friction material and when it gets hot will seep out and the clutch will slip no matter how much you clean it.0

If it was a new slave two months ago, then it's an unusually rapid parts failure, and - assuming they supplied and fitted the bits - the garage should cover the cost of re-doing it.
If the slave wasn't replaced at the same time as the clutch, then that was some short-sightedness, and it's come home to roost. Why they didn't replace it is another question... Parts delays? Penny-pinching?0 -

Only if it's a concentric slave.
Not all clutches have a concentric slave cylinder.
But agreed if the car has one then it should always be done.0 -
Thanks all for your input. Very helpful.
So the garage replaced and charged me for: the clutch kit, clutch slave cylinder (200 for both), gear oil (£35) and labour (280). By the way its a zafira. So I am guessing there will be warranty on the parts, (i am assuming they either used 2nd hand parts hence the failure or they didnt do it right?). Anyways will be talking to them in the morning..0 -
