Does anyone have any tips for this annoying problem? I have a Dell D630 laptop, Windows XP. The problem is becoming more frequent, and earlier, the cursor was just moving throughout a document when I wasn't even typing.
Appreciate any advice.

Are you using an external ball mouse rather than the touchpad? If so the mouse may have gathered fluff inside which is interfering with the optical sensor.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0

Disable the Pointing Stick for now....but upgrade to Windows 7, it's easy enough.0

If you look in Control Panel -> Mouse there may be a tab called Trackpad and an option "Disable trackpad when typing".
This option may be in another part of the Mouse pane, or not there at all.
Laptops and trackpad software vary a lot.0 -

Thanks John,
I actually disabled the pointer in Control Panel - Mouse yesterday, and it seems to be working OK for now, I did however also have a look for Trackpad (for future reference), but was unable to find it - in a bit of a rush so will take another look later.
Thank you to everyone for your kind assistance and advice.0 -

H John, problem has returned, but worse than before, as cursor continually moving backwards, and through tabs and programmes also making it virtually impossible to use laptop, so it's taking forever to write this message. Is there anywhere else Trackpad could be? Or any other options I could try?0 -
Hi,
disable trackpad completely and get a usb wired mouse or a wireless mouse.
You might still have one knocking about, or get a cheapo from Argos, or even just borrow one to try it out first.0
