Direct Debit not taken by Halifax

Hi
I have been paying my Halifax mortgage for just over 5 years by direct debit each month (thru Nationwide Flexaccount) and they have always managed to take the payment out on time, 10th of each month....except today that is! And this happened despite my flexaccount still having the DD active and having the necessary funds to cover the DD (verified by online banking and also by giving Nationwide a quick call). How can this happen? I thought DD’s were supposed to be automated?
Anyway I tried to call Halifax a few times this afternoon but couldn’t get through and as I‘m abroad at present I cannot afford to be placed in a long queue. Was wondering does anyone have any email address for their mortgage dept, so I can email them and ask them to call me back (I couldn’t find any email address on their website). I'm really worried that i will be charged interest on this payment (thru no fault of my own) and to top it off it could put my good credit rating in jeopardy
Thanks in advance.

check it tomorrow morning when things update and when staff can look at it. can't without looking see a reason for it
they do not communicate by email for secuirty reasons, but on the website is a callback button
were there full cleared funds on friday at nationwide (bank working day before)?0 -
thanks for replying, yes i've had the cleared funds in my account since last monday (3rd sept) so i'm really puzzled why this has happened...i was thinking of doing nothing until i get back to UK (end of month) but i suspect that could make things worse. Anyway will wait and see what happens tomorrow.
