daily toric contact lenses

Hi there,

I'm having problems finding the the correct prescription for daily toric (astigmatism) contact lenses and wondered if anybody could help?

My actual prescription is:
Right
sphere -1.75
cylinder -2.25
axis 25

Left
sphere -2.00
cylinder -2.75
axis 165

I put it in one of these toric contact lens conversion calculator things and it came out that I should order:

Right
sphere -1.75
cylinder -1.75
axis 20

Left
sphere -2.00
cylinder -2.25
axis 170

So my queries are:
- is that conversion accurate?
- if so, why can't I find a cylinder of -2.25 anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

Ive not dispensed contacts for a year now but certainly this time last year it would be a monthly lens if you wanted a 2.25 cyl.

What does it mean when you say you put in a conversion?

Do you mean you've taken your spectacle prescription and converted it to a contact lens prescription?
If so I'd recommend getting fitted.
I use specsavers. One annual fee £25 I think, covers as many appointments as you need. They did persevere for me to get me the best vision.

From what I understand, the toric or hard lenses (rather than soft) are not daily lenses because it would cost too much to do this and there would be a lot of wastage. I've heard of monthlies but not dailies.

I also have an astigmatism and couldn't get the dailies to work for me because despite in this day and age, machinery and technology to do so many things, they wont make contact lenses to fit someone's eyes, they just stick to lenses which are off-the-peg and hope they can find a pair to suit.

Like you my astigmatism is different per eye and I went through about 10 or 11 different brands over a few months to see if any worked but none did and I couldn't get used to the distorted views that I got as one was 0.2 one way out and the other was around 0.10 out the other way when trying to find where I sat in the pre-made types or something like that and I just got the most amazingly strong headaches which wouldn't settle.

I am sort of hoping that one day they actually invent a machine (if it has not already been done) which will make specific soft lense prescriptions for specific eyes. It still baffles me that this has not been done yet exists for toric lenses which are much harder to wear IME!

Mark Ennovoy are about £75 a lens, most people aren't happy spending £150 a month for contacts regardless of how much they say they'd give their right arm for custom soft lenses.

Their may well be daily options out their. The point is you can't just order online and hope for the best visual wise. The only way of assessing the vision accurately it to put them on the eye and see how they are fitting. The same contact lens fitted to the same spectacles prescription may vary 20 degrees either way.

    So you need them fitted.
