Kodi no sound with Chromecast

My sister has a problem with her Chromecast and Kodi setup. She uses it to watch foreign channels cast on the TV from Kodi using the Google cast extension from the browser to cast the whole screen. It used to work fine and now it won't send any sound to the TV, just the image.

I can't seem to understand why this is happening, but I've seen others are experiencing this as well, so it looks like a Kodi or Chromecast issue. Is there a way to fix this? I've already reinstalled the Google Cast extension, Kodi and restored the Chromecast unsuccessfully. Thanks in advance.

Would it not be easier to use an Amazon fire stick with Kodi installed plugged into the TV.
