Cheap cpntents insurance needed.

I've just moved into a rented flat with my daughters after marital breakdown so money is very tight. Have been trawling comparison sites looking for contents insurance but would really appreciate a nod in the right direction please.
Has anyone found any good deals with small monthly payments that will cover the technology, clothes etc plus tiny amount of furniture we have?
Thanks in advance!

You will need to use the comparison websites. As it depends how much you want to be insured for, what coverage you want etc etc.

Don't forget that cheaper usually means worse cover. So you really need to take some time to find out what the policies cover you for and to make sure that they are what you are looking for.

I have just insured for contents only cover with Legal & General. They have a promotion running at the moment with free family legal cover (worth about £25 a year on its own) free for one year. The legal cover ceiling is £50,000. However this promotion is not available by going direct I only got it by using Compare the Market.

It was not the cheapest quote but only by a difference of about £7. For that I have £0 voluntary excess and £100 compulsory excess. I also have accidental damage cover and personal belongings cover when out of my home too. I have two declared items on the policy too. The standard cover ceiling is £15,000 so will this be enough?

If money is very tight this extra level of cover with such a low excess may prove wise in the event of a claim. I also hate to say it but if you have experienced a marital breakdown the legal cover may prove handy.

I live in a rented apartment like yourself but paid annually. It was £87.87 so about £7.32 monthly but allow a mark up for paying monthly and I reckon it's still under a tenner a month. However your quote will of course depend on your individual circumstances, so like others have stated give the comparison sites a whirl and see what you get.

You are always welcome to check with forum members again if you think you've found a good deal.

Wow, the Legal cover sounds extremely interesting, thank you. Would using it increase the payment per month I wonder? I will certainly look for that. Thanks very much.

Probably not. Just check if it covers issues that exist prior to cover starting.

Ah, apparently the Family Legal Protection can't be used for matrimonial cases. Too good to be true, never mind. Thanks for the advice.

What sort of cover are you looking for? Is accidental damage or personal belongings cover important?

I can only reiterate, comparison sites. You are in the best place for that, just click on Insurance at the top of the home page and it will take you through all of 'em, in the right order. Bear in mind, if you pay the whole premium up front it will be cheaper than paying monthly as you pay interest on the "loan" for the annual premium.

Don't forget to declare valuable items, you mentioned IT, or they may not be covered. Also, look out for offers as they can influence what is the best value for you. For instance, last year I got £70 Amazon vouchers which made L&G better value than a cheaper insurer, if you get me. It's only a bargain if you were gonna buy it anyway...
