A barometer for UK Economy

Hi

Yesterday, I have read that FTSE 250 is a better barometer for UK economy and FTSE 100 is for international economy.

What about FTSE 350 and FTSE AIM?

    Ftse 350 is a combination of the 100 & the 250, unsurprisingly. As it is normally calculated by market capitalisation then this will be dominated by the big stocks in the ftse 100.

    Aim is the smallest part of the market so would expect that to be more uk focused.

    The problem in following the FTSE Aim would be it's got a lot of one-shot wonders which don't necessarily indicate much about the economy. There'll be companies whose entire fortune rests not on whether Britain is in or out of the EU, whether the economy does well or not, but on a miracle drug in development or drilling rights in some unpronounceable African region.
    This is everybody's fault but mine.
