I want to use my computer to record onto DVD from my satellite receiver, what is the best thing to buy, there seems to be a lot of things onthe market that claim to be able to do it. I just don´t know where to start.

Basically, you just need to TV card - prices start around £20. Run the TV-out (aerial not scart) from the sat box into the card and away you go... possibly. Quality will vary depending on the card you use and the PC. I tried it some time ago with Hauppage and 'All In Wonder' cards - reasonable results, but not as good as the VCR. However, this was some time ago - PC was around 600mHz processor so your mileage may vary.
For an idea of what's available, try the PC World site and put 'tv' in the search - good luck.0 -
Check the bit rate of the decoder chip in the card specs.
8bit decoder give you bit worse that VHS picture quality like was mentioned
10bit decoder will give you a professional picture quality.0
