With the exception of those holding qualifying Santander products (i.e. mortgages), and those with enough money that juggling accounts is not worth the hassle/risk of an error for the sake of an extra £5 or so a month, the 123 would usually be quite low down the bucket list of accounts to have.

Think of the 123 account like a horse. Incredibly rewarding if all of your circumstances fall into place, a lot of cost for questionable reward if they don't.

Do you not have a joint account?

Our joint account is with Santander so we pay money into that and have all direct debits coming out.

Add your husband to your account making it a joint account and then get him to change his direct debits that qualify for cashback, pulling them from the new joint account (your account number will not change). He can keep his current account and if you keep separate financial affairs he can set up a standing order to pay the joint account the total of the direct debits each month.

The Halifax account might be suitable, so might NatWest, TSB or Lloyds.

Have a look and do a brief calculation to see what suits best and take into account branch access (if you use it)
