M&S solar panel investment

just had this pop up on my twitter feed today from M&S ---

"Invest from £100 in our solar panels on M&S stores, with a targeted annual return of 5%" (and then a load of small print!)

As a complete novice in the world of investing, any advice?? Too good to be true??

The key bit you need to read:

Anyone buying shares in M&S Energy Society is at risk of losing some or all of the money invested and there is no guarantee that you will receive any return on your investment. The shares are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme or the Financial Ombudsman Service. Accordingly the money you pay for shares is not safeguarded by any deposit protection scheme or dispute resolution scheme.

    The actual website is here:

Did you read the small print, or just notice it was small?

Seriously, if you don't understand the warning then investing is not something you should do. You can get 5% fully guaranteed on around £5000 so why take the risk on something that could lose your money.

Mini-bonds are really dangerous. Unless you are a passionate supporter of the company or club - then I'd stay away, as there is no secondary market for them and the slightly better promised returns are a reflection of the risk (disproportionate). Plenty of buy opportunities out there and corporate bonds that are listed - so stay away from this is my advice.
