default credit file

Hi. I have found a default file on my credit file from virgin media. I have contacted them to dispute this as I have never taken any products out from them. My file says that the account has been settled however it is still showing on my file and is affecting my ability to obtain credit. They have said that they can't do anything about it. I asked if they could send me any signed paperwork or even for them to check who has settled the account as it most definitely has not been settled by myself(to which they will do neither) I would like this removed but I'm guessing even a note of correction on file would help me out but it is so frustrating as I feel they are fobbing me off. What are my rights regarding this? And what would be your advice regarding this and what rights do I have with regards to this?? Thanks

A notice of correction would probably be the worst thing to do.
Pursue them to provide evidence of the debt and also raise it with the CRA.0 -
You would probably be better raising a formal complaint (by letter) and if they don't respond to your satisfaction within 8 weeks (or issue a deadlock letter) take it to the ombudsman?
You could threaten to report them to the ICO but I think they've largely stopped dealing with individual cases.
There's also a Virgin Media rep on here who may pick up the thread but sadly I do t think you can PM them directly.0
