Thanks for your ideas guys. The council haven't painted it at all, they've just given me a refresh paint pack, which is basically a voucher I can cash in for some tins of paint, rollers etc. Every room is a different colour, and none of the place was being well maintained by the last tenant. I will definitely look into Euronics and talk to CAB. There is a local BHF and Emmaus where I'm hoping to get most of the furniture I need.

So it's not new bare plaster? Can live with it then!

Bare minimum furniture is a bed and a chair really, and a basic fridge, ideally a washer. 2 plates, 2 mugs, 2 bowls etc (one for you, one for carer)

You can live with very little then gradually as you are able, and can afford it, improve the place.

Room size off cuts in places like Carpet Land are usual cheap.

Are there any places selling refurbished furniture around you? Our county and the neighbouring one have places which take furniture, do it up and sell to those in need.

If you want cheap mugs, plates, cutlery other kitchen stuff try large car boot sales. There are usually dozens of cheap kitchen items. I bought 2 stunning bone china mugs for 10p each near closing time.

If you are within travelling distance from an IKEA they do basic kitchen stuff at low cost
