Demolishing Outbuildings
Comments

Traf is right. Quote H&S at them etc. write formally to say you will hold them responsible for any damage or injury casued by the unsafe nature of the building. If they tell you that you can knock it down - you are doing them a favour - make them come and collect the rubble. Due to the difficulty for companies in dumping rubble its quite expensive now and why should you pay.

Thanks to everyone for replying. Unfortunately the outbuildings are practically falling down, they are dangerous (although we could rebuild them, will have to think about that..)
Our neighbour is Ok but currently has her house on the market so the ownership could change within the notification period.. so we need to think about that although there shoudnt be a problem for them, if anything it will be a bonus as the condition of the whole wall will be improved.
Having read the Party Wall Act and spoken to the Council (who were spectacularly unhelpful) we can demolish the building as long as we notify the neighbour and do the work properly. However this probably means we wont be able to go at it with a sledgehammer in case we do more damage than good! So ut looks like we need a professional. Does anyone have experience of having this type of work done before, or any idea how mcuh it would cost?0
