car accident while learning how to drive

Hi. Two years ago as a learner driver i had a car accident when driving a car with instructor. The accident wasnt my fault, basically i was hit from the back by another car.
My instructor made a claim for car damage from other driver's insurance and i made a claim for my injury.
Unfortunately because of that now i've got a lot of problems with getting an insurance for my car.
I believe i need to answer that i had a car accident in last 5 years, and when i do that GoCompare asks me for total value of all claims - i need to guess that because i dont have any contact to my former instructor and dont know how much did he claim. Anyway this is increasing me premiums a lot.
Am i doing it right?

No don't guess the value. Say "don't know"

Make clear it was a "no fault" claim with everything paid by the third party insurer (and it's all a single claim)

I would think you could just state your claim for injury as that is all you, personally, claimed.

Thanks, but the problem is lack of such option. When buying an insurance or making a quote i dont have options like "dont know" or a way of explaining that it was "no fault" claim, or even that i was learner driver and wasnt responsible for a car i was driving. Computer decides how much should i pay based on my answers to predefined questions.

From my experience once you mention a claim there are further options available to give basic details.

You can of course always actually speak to someone, like the good old days!

Do the GoCompare bit without declaring the accident, get your results, and then do it the old fashioned way by phone to those companies, BUT explain what happened and see what they can do for you.

Computer models never will cope with the odd situations.

GoCompare is only a quote line, after all.
