Windsor/Legoland Help Required Please

Hi, my son and I are spending the w/e in Windsor at The MacDonald Castle Hotel, right next to the castle funnily enough - paid for by Mr Tesco of course!

We fly in to Heathrow, ETA 3.30pm on Friday. What is the best way to get from Heathrow to Windsor? Is there a bus service? I searched the web and I can’t find anything, but maybe there is an indirect service? Is the only way by train into London and out again, as this sounds like too much hassle.

Third option is by taxi, but I understand that the black cabs that wait at Heathrow will be very expensive. If a private hire taxi is the best option could someone please recommend a good firm?

Finally, we will be travelling from Windsor o Legoland on the Saturday, is the bus service OK? I see it leaves Windsor at 10am, as we will only have one day, would a taxi to get there a bit earlier be better as it opens at 10am and we want to try to see everything.

Many thanks in advance you knowledgeable people!

  • If you want to avoid having to go into London then get a bus link to Feltham and catch the train from Feltham to Windsor.
This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down

Does anyone have any thoughts re getting to Legoland before opening - will it be busy this w/e?

    Thanks.

Bus 77 drops you off about 20 yards from the hotel http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/077Heathrow.htm

We go by car so I'm not sure about the bus to Legoland I think they run quite frequently. Aim to be going through the turnstiles at 10am on the dot cos it will be busy this Saturday. Head for the bigger/newer /more popular rides first as the queues build up very fast. A friend went late morning 2 weeks ago 1 hour plus wait for the Pirate Falls Log Flume, we went Sat 14 July similar time but only a 15 min wait. If you can take a small backpack with cooler bag stick in drinks & sarnies will save you getting striped for Lego food & drink. Just round the corner from your hotel is Peascod Street Woolworths, M & S or Waitrose will sort you out for food & drink

Thanks for that. We have never been to Legoland before – what would be the best rides for an adventurous 8 year old boy?

Which ones do you think we should head to first?

    Thanks again!

I'd head first for Dragon Coaster, Pirate Falls & Spinning Spider all very close to each other. Then Boating School, Jungle Coaster, Wave Surfer & Extreme Team Challenge. The Viking River Splash only opened a couple of weeks back so I've not been on it will probably have the longest queues of all. Don't bother with the train ride near the centre of the park our friends queued nearly one hour for a 2 min tour around places you repeatedly tramp around
    .

In Windsor you could try the Royal Windsor Wheel http://www.royalwindsorwheel.com/ and do a boat trip on the river
  • Agree with stamford but your 8 year old will love Driving School as well - a large driving area with electric 2-pedal cars.

He will have a fab day but do not expect to see it all in 1 day; there are over 50 rides and attractions in the park.

Depending on how far you live from Windsor, consider getting restricted annual pass which is less than twice the normal entrance fee. You can purchase this inside the park, you don't have to decide before you go in.

Read the UGLW Top Tips at the Unofficial Guide to Legoland Windsor http://www.uglw.co.uk/ for some good ideas.

Stamford, the train ride you don't like is called Orient Expedition. Younger ones like it because you can see Lego animals and you get squirted with water.

Have fun there - report back ;)

Thanks for that, we live in Edinburgh so I think an annual pass is probably not for us!

Off today, so will reportback, thanks all!
