I've just read in a magazine, that there have been problems at Teamviewer, and data has been hacked. It is recommended to stop using it. Can anyone recommend an alternative please.

Teamviewer itself hasn't been hacked, its stupity of users who have same passwords across multiple sites (like me
)
Choices are logmein, which isn't free although hamachi might be, or VNC but then have to open firewall ports which may or may not be possible depending on your use.0 -
join.me is a browser based remote control product.
Its not as good as teamviewer but it works .
Just use teamviewer - Its fine0 -
Hi
Try AnyDesk.
Ugly but effective. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I heard of the issues, looked at some alternatives, then stuck with Teamviewer.
I do use UltraVNC on my Raspberry Pis if I need the desktop and not just a command prompt but teamviewer needs no open ports and seems to be a bit nicer to use.
Of no importance to me since I've retired but I expect that Teamviewer like LogMeIn which I used to use until it changed over to paid only it would not be blocked by corporate firewalls.0 -
We use TeamViewer at work quite a bit.. but I also keep Join.me as a backup since TeamViewer can be a bit version specific.
We also use Sykep for Business and http://www.gotomeeting.co.uk/
Google Hangouts can also share screens
Join.me is very good at getting around firewalls and your 'viewers' only need to access a URL.0 -
I only used to connect by typing my teamviewer id and password, but now I've set it up so it just type in my Teamviewer username and password in the computer and contacts bit. I'm getting a red triangle though, trying to get me to install IT Brain antivirus, as it's saying my antivirus isn't turned on, which I know it is. Don't know how to get rid of this annoying triangle. Perhamps I'm using teamviewer wrong. When I've tried to log on from any new device, like my tablet or phone, for the first time, I get an email with a link to confirm it's ok for this device to log on, which is good.0

As already said, it's the reuse of passwords that is the problem; not the software.
If people switch to another application, but use the same password, they they aren't going to be any better off.0 -
Thanks for the reassurance guys. I'll stick with it.0
