Does anyone buy in bulk for their pantry?

I stock up on nonperishables that we will definitely use - laundry detergent, toilet roll, washing up liquid - as well as tinned food. Just before winter, I make sure we have enough to get by for at least a week or two, in case of financial, health, or weather problems. Then slowly reduce it again in the spring.Saving, decluttering and doing alright.:xmastree: :xmastree:0

Thanks everyone

Not planning on eating dead bugs
PasturesNew- I like the idea of having all the carbs on 1 shelf, all the tinned on another shelf etc. At the moment i have 1 cupboard in my kitchen that has all carbs, but i have the smallest cupboards and tiny kitchen so everything is so awkward to get to. I cant wait to move into the new house and be able to see what i have!
Pennydropped- Good idea about the washing up liquid, detergent etc. I am definitely planning on stocking up on offers of these when i see them.
I wish i could insert a photo of the pantry, but i dont know how to.0 -

Actually it would most likely be unmatched eggs.
The US Food and Drug Administration has rules called food defect action levels.
I'm sure most nations do also. These rules set out regulations that food manufacturers have to follow concerning acceptable levels of insect parts, rat hair etc in our food.
It's gross to think about but it's a fact of life. Everyone has consumed something yucky at one time or another because it's not possible to keep it out of canned or processed food.
like the cans of tuna that have the tuna tongue eating parasites mixed in, the 'worms' which live in cod and other fish (they pay people to pick them out at the fish filleting factories), critters dancing about in your salad and other veg.. I know several people who have eaten caterpillars.. or HALF caterpillars
and the multitude of bugs we eat from commercial bought produce..
If we thought about it too much we would never eat a thing.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
When you buy flour stick it in the freezer for 24 hours then keep it in the fridge. I got a big American style fridge although there's only two of us here now - but I use it to store flour and other dry foods.
I did try shopping monthly but kept running out of things and also spent more in the end - going into a shop for milk or yoghurt and coming out with half a trolley..
gave it up! 0 -
Pastures New - Do you have removable plinths on your base cupboards ? It can be an extra storage area for an overflow of canned goods . Just have to remember they are there and rotate as space in the cupboard becomes available .

I dont really use flour all that much, but i'll remember this when i do buy some. Thanks.
I think I'll start with bi-monthly pantry filling, and go from there.0 -
I wish I did ha e more of a stock in. I'm almost out if my overdraft so been buying only on a 'when needed basis' , I was planning to get some butter and spuds, loo roll and loo cleaner on the way back from school this morning, but son is vomiting. So no going out for us! (I'm a single mum). So my mum has done an online shop for us coming tomorrow bless her!
But lesson learned and I'm going to have a good think about basic levels I need to keep in.

I hope your son is feeling better soon Cheel.
As a single Mum, i often have the same problem getting out and about to buy food if a child is il. So even more of a reason for me to stock up my pantry!0
