Cheap Warm City Break Wanted for first week of October!

Hi, Me and my Gf are looking to get away for up to a week for a cheap city break in the first week of October but having not traveled in Continental Europe at all I am at a bit of a loss to understand where best to go for the value/best weather/things to do and see. We are looking to fly out of any London Airport going out on Wed Oct 3rd or Thurs, coming back Mon or Tues Oct 9th - whenever is cheapest. We are looking at 200 pp for flights/hotel but it would be great to find something cheaper.

So far I am considering Lisbon and Madrid - since they relatively cheap flights available (according to Martins cheap flight checker) and have decent priced hotels.

Anyone have other recommendations for places that would be worthwhile going to and that would have nice weather? Also - silly question but do most people in Lisbon or Madrid not speak English - should I be taking some notes for phrases?

Thanks for your help so much in advance!

Thanks for that - looks good. Though wouldnt it be a little cold in Krakow? Was thinking that Southern Europe would have the warmest places in early Oct but perhaps I am wrong?

In any case many thanks for your help!
