You introduced a blanket definition which is not true. Depends on the bank and the cards they offer. There is also the possibility of regular promotional offers to consider. For example MBNA gave me a good APR but never gave me any promotional offers at all but Amex does them regularly. I even got a free Big Mac Meal when I paid with Amex. Even Aqua gave me a 6% BT. There is more to it than just getting a plastic card.

But not one of the cards you mention that have given you a good deal were issued by your bank... Thus proving you are more likely to find a deal away from your bank.

Your bank may or may not give you a good deal. Just because they know your circumstances does not mean they will treat you any better, they will most likely do an external credit check anyway. Of my four cards 2 are with organisations I bank with but only because they offered the best deals available on the open market at the time.

No, Anthorn, but clearly whatever you say must, of course, be etched in stone. Banks have no reason to compete with CC companies, ergo the likes of Amex, Aqua, not going down the whole list, tend to offer better deals.

It's interesting that you equate Aqua with Amex.

All I am saying is that a blanket definition is being applied to all banks which is not true. If we say that a CC company will provide a better deal than a bank we must name the CC company and the bank and give examples of their cards. Saying that a CC company provides a better deal than a bank period is a blanket definition.

In my case for example Lloyds Bank provided a better low rate card than did MBNA if we consider a lower APR and promotional offers to be better. From that experience I could say that banks provide better cards than CC companies but that would be a blanket definition which is not true.
