I ordered some foreign currency last weekend to collect from an Asda next weekend.

I have today received an email from Asda advising that they have cancelled my order (due to the fluctuations in the rates following the EU Referendum) and have refunded the money to my account.

I have checked their terms and conditions and it does not state anywhere that they can cancel the order at anytime, and I would have thought that as I have paid this is a legal and binding order.

I telephoned their customer services department and they said there was a note on their website which would have been visible at the time of placing the order - if it was there does that count? Is that legally binding, as I do not recall seeing this message (although it is there now) and no where in my email confirmations does it say due to the referendum they can cancel at anytime and refund me!

Thank you

K

Does it matter ? What do you want them to do ? Get your currency from somewhere else now.

Yes it would count if it was there, I just looked now and its in red and big writing and pretty hard to miss.

Are you sure you didnt miss it?

If not, you can argue your case, I know you can do google cache of sites but not sure if you can google cache what order forms used to look like... However, its unlikely to be resolved before your holiday so you might be best to just cut and run.

Anyway, I thought the rates had became a bit more favourable since immediately after the ref? Am I out of the loop?

Whats the difference between what you purchased then and what it would cost now?

I cant see anything in their terms about what constitutes acceptance but they do seem to say once placed, orders cannot be changed/cancelled which would suggest a legally binding agreement is in place.

But really, unless we're talking about a LOT of money here, its going to cost you more in time and money to argue it than any potential losses you've incurred as a result of them cancelling.

What is the problem they have refunded your money just go elsewhere, there are plenty of places such as the Post Office and banks on the high street that do currency exchange.

Probably avoid the post office as their rates aren't great

Bizarelly my local pawn shop is currently offering the best local deal on Euros.

    Travelex are usually competitive too.

I was looking for best rates yesterday and searched several sites. Both Asda and Tesco state that any order placed for collection beyond the next day would be cancelled. A refund would be issued but may take up ten? Days.

My bank who I went with had no warnings BUT only offered collection for the next day in the drop down menu.

So I'd say they're covering their own backs while there is uncertainty about the euro!!!!

Lol, I thought this was strange too, when I was looking to convert some dollars back to sterling and the best deal was from one of the payday loan shops.

I wasn't wearing a tracksuit and baseball cap, so felt, right out of place. :D
