Thanks so much for all of the replies!
I went into hospital on the 1st for a small op, and hadn't been able to get back on to read any replies. I will have a proper read through now. Thanks again everyone :)

My friend's two sons spent some time working in the security industry. One had HGV but couldn't get a driving job until he turned 25 because of the high insurance rates. Now he's hoping to get his articulated and move up. Funnily enough, the other left security work and is now driving tanks.

  • Miamoo, been offered my first supermarket job at age 34 in a total change away from my background, it can be done :) was quite easy if I can do it I'm really holding out hope for son - took 2 weeks from applying, interview/floor assessment to receive offer - they were not concerned at lack of retail experience just showing understanding of customer service. 16 hours up for grabs which would have helped carry on any job search/further education prospects for sure.
My third offer in 3 weeks is going to have to time expire as fortunately you only get 24 hours to accept! You have to be that quick responding but yes a legitimate job.

Good luck to him. I've always found it exceptionally hard.

It is hard and really annoying when you get a good feeling about an interview. I hope he gets something soon he enjoys doing.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. That's the only reason I handle rejection in a positive way. Every failed attempt is a learning opportunity, and anyone serious about self improvement will do what they can not to make the same mistakes again. If the mistake is being less qualified than the competition, back to school it is :)

Yay he got the job!! :D
The one he had the 2nd Interview for last week, he's just had a letter offering him the position, he did really well as there were loads of applicants. He's over the moon about it and so am I.

He now has to look for some temporary work as the job doesn't start until September lol But the pressure is off now, and he is happy to do anything at all!
