Just want to get an idea whether it's worthwhile getting real hardwood flooring laid or to stick with the laminate stuff.
A friend of mine recently had flooring laid (it was an inbetween product with maybe 3-5mm of real wood with a mdf type reinforcement underneath.
I have to be honest it didn't look special at all compared to the cheap laminate flooring. Just wondering if this was true with other people/s experiences?
I have 7mm laminate flooring in my house, it would be simple to just replace it with the same prduct so I dont have to take out and cut the doors shorter etc.
Let me take this back to the original post,
Why hardwood V laminate?.
1) Tradition, natural works
2) Hardwood can be refinished, many times.
3) when laminate is fubared it really is fubared, no recovery
4) residual value, knackered laminate versus reclaimable solid anyone?
5)Finally, to throw a spanner in the works, engineered OAK, etc is best, tighter joints, the same refinishing capability and much more stable. Hurt me to say that,;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

We have Junkers solid beech 12mm flooring in our hallway, been down 28+ years now, still looks good. Never been re-finished as we are careful and have rugs to take the wear, but can be refinished.0

I've been gradually replacing all the laminate in my house with solid oak flooring, and unless you are dragging furniture over it without felt pads or stamp around in stilettos then it it should look good for many years.
I also have had engineered oak flooring in my hall way for 3 years and despite the heavy traffic it still looks good with very little sign of wear.0 -
Obviously this is about what you can afford, and also what your own priorities are.
My family are wood buffs - some of them can easily spot laminates (I can't) and they get real pleasure from having a wooden floor. Others get bothered about "real" marble (as opposed to "marble effect") tiles and so on.
I agree that bamboo is a good alternative - a good friend has this and it is comfortable and pleasant. We also had cork floor tiles for years - I really liked them and it was easy to replace the odd worn one or two.0 -
There are some very good LVT products as an alternative to both.0

Mate has a solid (what looks like) pine floor. He never invites women to his house because their heels trash the floor.

Poor bloke, time for carpets methinks;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
